Project: Slought Foundation Award for Rogue Thought

The first annual Slought Foundation Award for Rogue Thought was established by Slought Foundation in 2006. The recipient will receive a complete set of our past publications, as well as an original work of art signed by the artist from the Slought Foundation collection. The program aims to provide such support at moments in the recipient’s career when a concentration on growth and exploration is most likely to have the greatest impact on her long-term professional development. The award is founded on the belief that the vitality of the arts and humanities today—and especially tomorrow—is dependent upon the ability of cultural and intellectual communities to imagine new futures for contemporary life. Whether it is a performance in a concert hall, an exhibition in a museum, a scholarly publication, a poetry reading at a school, or a community arts festival, the cultural, intellectual, and civic life of our society is built, fundamentally, upon its creative classes and the work they are continually able to make.

Award recipient selections are made by a panel of arts and academic professionals from outside the Philadelphia area. All panelists, chosen for their expertise and aesthetic breadth, serve anonymously for one year and their correspondence is kept confidential. This policy enables panelists to provide their honest impressions independent of outside influence. The Award Panel does not accept applications or unsolicited nominations. Slought Foundation does not require or expect specific products or reports from recipients, and does not evaluate their creativity during the term of the award. This award is a "no strings attached" award in support of people, not projects.

There are three criteria for selection of the award recipient: exceptional creativity, promise for important future advances based on a track record of significant accomplishment, and potential for the award to facilitate subsequent creative work.
