Please join us on Sunday, April 10, 2005 from 8-10pm at Slought Foundation for a live concert with Prince Lasha and special guests, including Odean Pope (saxophone), Tyrone Brown (bass) and Craig McIver (drums).

Prince Lasha (b. 1929, William B. Lawsha) performed in the same Fort Worth, Texas high school band as King Curtis, Ornette Coleman and Charles Moffett. He shares qualities with both saxophonists, but his closest musical cousin is surely multi-instrumentalist Eric Dolphy, with whom (in the early 1960s) he recorded on "Iron Man" (with Clifford Jordan, Bobby Hutcherson, Richard Davis and Woody Shaw), "Conversations", and "Dolphy Sound", among others. Lahsa also performed on the Elvin Jones/Jimmy Garrison Sextet's "Illumination!" (Impulse Records) with McCoy Tyner as well as his own "Firebirds" featuring Sonny Simmons and "Inside Story" with Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter. Since the 70s, Lasha has kept his composing and performing underground.
